The Olympus Pen E-PL2 is the newest addition to the PEN family of small and light Olympus DSLR’s. It feature new lens technology and new auxiliary lenses, new in camera creative features, and a Close-Up spotlight accessory for macro photography, and blue-tooth accessory.
The device holds a new Movie and Still Compatible ED m14-42mm f3.5/5.6 zoom lens. Olympus have sped up the focus mechanism to make it run faster than the previous model, the E-PL1. The Live Guide system in the E-PL2 lets you preview photo effects before taking your photo.
It also features a new face detection called “Eye Detect AF” which automatically adjusts the focus on your subject’s eyes during a portrait shot. Art Filters have been improved in this new model, giving you new variations for customizing pictures with moods and effects.
There are 6 Art Filters which includes the brand new Dramatic Tone filter. You can utilize the Multiple Exposure function to take one photo after another in quick succession and then combine them together in real time. Alternatively, you can take your two shots and combine them later on. When watching your shots in a sideshow, you can select from 6 music tracks to play in the background.
There are 22 scene-select modes including Panorama, Macro, Children, Sunset and Fireworks. E-portrait mode lets you smooth the complexion of your subject. Three of the scene modes are specifically designed to use with the new conversion lenses.
You can use the iAuto to automatically identify the type of scene you are shooting, be it landscape, portrait, night portrait, sport or macro. It will then alter the setting to optimize your picture quality. To go further, the iEnhance mode can be used alongside the iAuto to enrich the colors of a subject.

Thi E-PL2 is a good improvement on the E-PL1. The revised kit lens is not only just as sharp as the former model, but also only contains one moving part, and is much less likely to break. The change of design has also dramatically enhanced the focus speed in both well-lit and poor-light environments.
The body design is much better too. Despite being thicker, the grip is less awkward and feels more natural when you’re holding the camera and shooting. Button layout is more logical, and features a scroll wheel which is a very nice touch.
In addition, the new screen has a higher resolution, which in combination with the size of the camera makes manual focusing much easier. The screen is not recessed into the body, making it a lot easier to clean up smudges and dust.
